Formula & method
GPA = Σ (grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ credit hours. A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.
Worked example
An A in a 3-credit course and a B in a 3-credit course gives (4.0×3 + 3.0×3) ÷ 6 = 3.50 GPA.
FAQ
- What scale does this use?
- The standard US 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades. Some schools use different scales; check your school's policy.
- Are failed courses counted?
- Yes, an F counts as 0 grade points but its credits still count in the divisor, which is why it lowers GPA sharply.
- Can I add more courses?
- Yes — add a row per course and the GPA updates across all of them.
